8-Day Tour of Peru from Lima to Machu Picchu
Visit one of the most important archaeological sights in the world, Machu Picchu, while getting a taste of the local Peruvian culture
Up in the mountains of Peru lies the ancient ruins, Machu Picchu. Discover why this mountaintop city is one of the 7 Wonders of the World. As a top attraction in Peru it can be hard to get access to, which why we include a guided tour of the abandoned city!
One tradition Peruvians have kept alive over the years is their impressive weaving and man made handcraft skills. The locals use authentic textiles and materials to create a variety of unique jewelry, pottery, carvings and more.
Peru is not only mountains, hiking trails and llamas! The heart of Peruvian culture lies in their colorful cites. Peruvian cities showcase a variety of architecture, markets, museums, and ruins that are proof they stay strong to their roots.
Arrive in Lima at any time and use your free time to explore the historic city. Head back to the hotel in the early evening to meet with your tour guide and the rest of your group to review trip details. Spend the night in experiencing Lima before your group departs for Cusco in the morning. Day 2 will be a free day in Cusco where you will have the option to spend the day relaxing or exploring the city's attractions followed by an ethnic Peruvian cooking class.
Enjoy a full-day guided tour of the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo ruins with your group. First, you will stop at the woman's weaving co-op to learn about traditional weaving and dyeing. Next, you will take a guided tour of the Pisac ruins, the colorful artisan market, and the small indigenous village of Huchuy Qosco before having lunch at the Parwa community restaurant. Finally, continue on to the town of Ollantaytambo for a guided tour of the ruin site.
You and your group will board a morning train that winds through the spectacular Urubamba Valley to the end of the line: the village of Aguas Calientes, a frontier town nestled in the hills beneath Machu Picchu. You will have a free day to take advantage of the local mountain trails, waterfalls, and hot springs or embark on a full day hike of the Inca Trail. Enjoy a low-key night with the other members of the group in preparation for Machi Picchu in the morning.
Get an early start with your group for a guided tour of the most popular attraction in Peru - Machu Picchu. The tour takes you through the 5-mile ruins of the city stretching across the Andes Mountains, giving you a fun and detailed history on the iconic man made wonder. Use any leftover energy from your Machu Picchu hike to visit the Inca Bridge site nearby, thought by some to be a secret back entrance to Machu Picchu, before the group heads back to Cusco in the evening.
Spend day 6 and the morning of day 7 exploring Cusco with your fellow travelers. Your free time can be used to go horseback riding, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, or simply relax and take in the local culture. Hop on an afternoon flight on day 7 and travel from Cusco back to Lima where you can spend the rest of your time picking up where you left off exploring!
